How BSHK Evolved
Blind Sports Hong Kong Limited (“BSHK”) was independently formed in early 2018. We are a recognizable registered charitable organization exempted from tax under section 88 of the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Ordinance. We are managed and run by the Honorary Board of Directors consisting of six members.
BSHK was formerly one of the interest groups under the Hong Kong Lutheran Social Services, Shek Kip Mei Lutheran Centre for The Blind (formerly known as HKLSS Blind Sports Hong Kong), which was formed in 2012 with the aim to provide running and physical training for the visually impaired. The voluntary coaches are professionally trained and qualified to carry out the training through structured activities such as fitness enhancement exercises, walking and distance running. Irrespective of the age groups, the aim is to enhance the physical mobility, the general health well being and to deliver positive influence to the visually impaired and the individuals suffering from long term illnesses. This also serves as a social platform to encourage the visually impaired to step out of darkness and reintegrate them into to the community.
Our Activities
Over the years, other than weekly run/ walk training, BSHK participated in various open running races both in Hong Kong and overseas. Additionally, we have expanded to have our members involving in other sporting activities such as indoor rowing, scuba diving, dancing and yoga. In terms of social contribution, our members and volunteers regularly take part in home visits to the elderly and nursing homes, provide full checkpoint support to some popular annual sporting events such as Hong Kong 100 Ultra Marathon, Totem Run and Race for Water. Given the diverse nature and scale of our activities, we surpassed the nature of being an interest group under the HKLSS. It was with the recommendation and support of the HKLSS, BSHK was independently formed and registered in 2018. From there, all management decisions, operational matters and financial arrangement are independently owned and run by the Honorary Board of Directors separately from the HKLSS.
